Everyone Knows represents the music from a journey of 5 years. From the first International Love Corporation album The Experimental Shape of Happiness, leaving my home in london to try to discover what truly is the meaning of this word 'love'....several trips to the east, making a film, returning again to Europe and this time to Berlin. Life has been uprooted many times and recently, in finally settling again and making sense of all that has gone on in this period, I started thinking about putting another album together. Some music that could capture all that has happened, not literally, but in spirit yes. And then I realized I had already recorded all the songs, some before I started, many along the way.
When I set out on this road I wasn't sure I even wanted to make music anymore, and part of my intention was to destroy the musician in me once and for all. As dramatic as that might sound it was kinda true. Music takes me on a rollercoaster ride and there are times when it exhausts me, when it takes me to the point of madness. I wanted to protect myself. But everything kept pointing me back, to my guitar, to writing songs, through chance encounters and the way tunes sometimes seem to rise out of nowhere, appearing in your life before you even know what's happening.
Everyone Knows is the perfect title, because that one song represents the most honest expression of something I've been trying to communicate with the International Love Corporation, better expressed in the song that in words. And it started life in london where I put down the vocals and guitar all alone in my friends recording studio, wondering what I was doing with my life, and continued all the way over in India where, by chance, I went from being in a concert watching in awe the esteemed sitar master Kushal Das performing, to a few days later sitting in a room with him in his house as he put down his beautiful performance on the track. A truly magical happening. And from there with my camera and laptop, filming the video along the beautiful beaches of Goa.
And the other tracks-songs I love. In listening to the album now I believe its the best one that I put together in my time writing and recording music, with all the people to thank who have helped and been part of the ILC in one way or another. I hope its enjoyed by whoever is reading this. And if so then please spread word of it far and wide. Send the link on to friends, to anyone you think might like it. That'll make me happy!
